The Best Scoliosis Treatment is Chiropractic Care | Chiropractor for Scoliosis in Oviedo, FL

Hi, I’m Dr. Eric Janowitz with Synergy of Oviedo Chiropractic. Today, we’re discussing scoliosis and its impact on health, as well as how chiropractic care can positively influence those with this condition. Scoliosis, characterized by a curve in the spine that appears as an “S” or “C,” is a condition I hold close to my heart. My personal journey with scoliosis and how chiropractic care helped me avoid surgery inspired me to help others facing similar challenges.

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis involves an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, viewed from the front or back, which is often coupled with rotation or twisting of the vertebrae. This malalignment can cause significant strain on the spine’s joints and ligaments and can adversely affect the nervous system. The nerves affected can influence not only the muscles of the back but can extend their impact to the limbs and even internal organs.

Visual Signs and Early Detection

Typically, scoliosis is noticeable through an unusual posture and can significantly impact self-esteem and confidence due to its effect on appearance. Early detection is crucial and often occurs during school screenings which may involve observing the child bending forward to identify any asymmetry in the torso.

Chiropractic Approach to Scoliosis

As chiropractors, we are skilled in detecting and managing scoliosis early on, particularly important since many pediatricians might not specialize in early scoliosis diagnosis. Our approach includes:

    • Corrective Chiropractic Care: Utilizing specific adjustments based on detailed postural analysis and digital X-ray data to guide the correction of spinal misalignments.
    • Therapeutic Exercises: Both in-office and at-home exercises to support spinal correction.
    • Regular Monitoring: Continuous assessment through follow-up X-rays to track the progression or improvement of the curvature.

Conventional Medical Approaches

Typically, medical responses include bracing for curves that are between 25 and 45 degrees. Braces aim to halt progression but are often uncomfortable, leading to low compliance, particularly among teens. They do not correct the curvature but rather attempt to prevent worsening.

The Importance of Early Intervention

Early intervention is key in managing scoliosis effectively. Initially, scoliosis may present as a single curve, which is relatively easier to manage. If untreated, compensatory curves may develop, complicating the condition. Addressing scoliosis when it’s still a minor issue can prevent it from escalating into a more severe problem, potentially requiring surgery.

If you or someone you know is dealing with scoliosis, consider chiropractic care as a viable option to manage and potentially improve the condition before it progresses significantly. At Synergy of Oviedo Chiropractic, we’re committed to providing comprehensive care to help our patients lead healthier lives.
