Whiplash facts
Whiplash is a severe strain of the neck. It affects the vertebrae, nerves, muscles and ligaments and can lead to permanent injury without prompt treatment. With prompt treatment, the symptoms and pain can be resolved within a few months, but research has shown that delaying treatment for as little as a few weeks after the injury can drastically increase healing times.
Neck strains can become progressively worse with time instead of better. Depending on the severity, the neck can lose its natural curvature, putting stress on the vertebrae and causing bones spurs and permanent loss of range of motion.
Dr. Janowski has many years of experience in treating neck injuries due to car accidents and sports injuries. He studied under Dr. A.C. Croft, who has written many chiropractic books on the subject of neck strains and whiplash. Dr. Janowski can diagnose the severity of your neck sprain and give you a treatment timeline for pain reduction and healing.
Neck Pain Healing Timeline
Complete recovery from neck pain can occur within a few months if you seek prompt treatment from our chiropractor. We recommend that you schedule an appointment as soon as possible after your car accident, sports injury or other accident where your head was whipped back and forth rapidly.
The first step in the treatment process is pain reduction. We accomplish this through chiropractic adjustments and massage and physical therapy. The goal is to reduce your pain to a 5 or less on a 10 point scale. If your pain can be reduced below a five within three weeks after the accident, your recovery time will be relatively short. Most individuals can be relatively pain free several months to a year later after treatments start.
If your pain is still moderate to severe after three weeks, it may take longer than one year to completely heal your injury, but Dr. Janowski will continuously evaluate your progress and adjust your treatments and sessions to ensure the best possible outcome.
